Bush Uni

Bush University Study Hub is an initiative based in the Garrthalala homelands of North East Arnhem Land, developed in partnership with Macquarie University and the Australian National University. It provides Yolŋu people with the opportunity to access higher education within their community through a tailored program that respects and integrates local Indigenous knowledge and languages.

The Hub was established to empower Yolŋu communities by delivering accessible education and skill development, helping to build a stronger future on Country.

Launched as a pilot in 2023 with students from Laynhapuyŋu, Djalkiripuyŋu, and Miyarrkapuyŋu, the program now offers two semesters per year with first year university-level subjects. Brand new facilities are set to be completed by in 2026, and this will open up enrolment to include more students from across North East Arnhem Land. As the program grows, Bush University aims to offer a broader range of courses and serve as a model for remote Indigenous education.
