Are you the person we’re looking for?

Laynha is a well-established and reputable Indigenous organization based in Yirrkala, Northern Territory. We provide municipal and essential services, housing repairs and maintenance, health services, land management, and community services to Yolngu residents in 30 plus remote homeland communities across North-East Arnhem Land.

The Laynha youth team forms a part of community services, and is seeking a motivated and passionate individual to work as a mentor to our Indigenous Trainee Youth Workers in the homelands. The position requires someone who is culturally competent, has a high level of personal integrity and a commitment to building the capacity of Yolngu staff in their roles. In addition to this, we require an individual who is collaborative, adaptable, patient and reflective; we require someone who is willing to work in remote locations, and who can take initiative and work autonomously as required.

What you will need to succeed?

You will hold qualifications or relevant experience in youth work or community development related fields. You will have previous experience in supporting and mentoring Indigenous staff, and be committed to building Yolngu capacity to lead youth programs in homelands. You will have the ability to facilitate and coordinate the delivery of a broad array of learning modules/workshops in the areas of wellbeing, life-skills and personal development. You will be comfortable working within a small team and possess strong oral and written communication skills. You will demonstrate sound and mature judgement in complex and difficult environments; as well as be willing to travel to homelands by 4WD or light aircraft, and stay overnight in remote locations as required (up to several nights per week).

Additionally, you must have the capacity to support in the delivery of culturally-appropriate young women’s wellbeing initiatives.

In exchange for your efforts:

You will enjoy benefits of a supportive team environment, an annual salary of $60,000 (pro rata), salary sacrifice under PBI rules, six weeks annual leave (pro rata) with 17.5% annual leave loading, away-from-bas and flight allowances (pro rata).
