About Bunhanura
History

Bunhanura, also called “The Landing”, is located in the Liya-Dhalinymirr clan estate.

Bunhaŋur has very close ancestral links with Mirrŋatja (Ŋalarra), Donydji and Mäpuru who represent the Liya-dhalinyumirr, Ritharrŋu, Ganalbiŋu and Guyamirrilili peoples. Bunhaŋur families also have very close links with the Maralŋura people from Gudjapin and Kabulwarnamyo near Gunbalanya.

Bunhanura is strategically located very close to the Gapuwiyak barge landing on the Buckingham River, which leads into Buckingham Bay. Over several decades the river and bay have been continuously fished by commercial fisherman for crabs and a variety of commercial fish species.

Buckingham Bay is open for fishing, but permits must be obtained from Northern Land Council before visiting. Please note this permit does not give you access to Bunhanura Homeland only the Buckingham Bay recreational area.
