To supply homelands of Burrum, Yalakun, Rurrangala and Gurkawuy with an appropriate and affordable power supply.
These communities now have a reliable and renewable power source which includes, in part, the concept of power ownership. The homeland members are now responsible for the amount of power they use and if not used efficiently, particularly during the evenings, they will have to wait for the following day for their batteries to be at capacity to provide electricity.
This, in turn, enables Laynha to save money on diesel supply, freeing up funds that can be spent on other vital infrastructure projects.
We’re also proud to share that Marcus Edwards, an Electrician with Laynhapuy who designed and installed these 2.5kW solar installations, won the ‘Stand-alone Power Award’ at the 2016 Solar Design and Installation Awards.
